MAS Wedding

March 23, 2013- Drew and I will be married! But for now, we must plan....(I love to plan!!)

Happy Anniversary
So I'm a little confused. Usually Drew and my anniversary is on December 5th but he proposed last year on December 4th. Any thoughts? I guess it won't much matter after the wedding. Do other people celebrate a wedding anniversary and a dating one? I guess most people don't have the issue of having the dating anniversary being as significant but it's been the same for us for 8 years now! Honestly, Drew and I are really not big occasion celebrators so we'll probably drop it but I guess we'll see! Can you believe we've been engaged for a year?! We went to P.F. Changs last night to celebrate the occasion.
I also was able to share with him all of the special gifts we received at my Christmas shower this past Sunday. My amazing friends Courtney, Carly, and Lindsey threw me an unforgettable shower with my mom, sister, Grandmama, and some of my closest girl friends. We did an activity where everyone shared some sort of Christmas tradition of theirs to give Drew and me some ideas. We also played a game where we all tried to draw a Christmas scene on paper plates that were on top of our heads. The drawings turned out a lot better than I expected. And, as always, there was lots of delicious food.
Here's a peek at some of the special things we received to decorate our house together at Christmas!

Engagement Session
We finally did our engagement session last night! My amazing neighbor, Abby Breaux, took pictures for us up at at Lake Lanier. For a while there, it seemed like the world was against us and this engagement session. Between the initial photographer issues (not Abby), the scheduling issues and the weather difficulties, it seemed like it would never happen. Even when we pulled up yesterday, it was sprinkling and very windy. I'm a little worried that I didn't look that great because of my wind-blown, humid-puffy hair. We'll see I guess! We really just need one decent picture so I'm crossing my fingers. Also towards the end I got stung by a bee that got stuck in my shirt- awesome. Needless to say, I'm a little worried about my expressions post-bee sting. However, at the end the sun came out for a gorgeous sunset! All and all it was a pretty good experience.
For those trying to decide if it is worth the awkwardness or not, go for it! Just have fun with your guy and be comfortable in your setting and everything will turn out fine.

Juggling
I have about 5 different things I'm in the middle of regarding the wedding. I feel like it's starting to get a little crazy but hopefully once I make these decisions, the big stuff will be over with (I say hopefully but knowing that I'm totally wrong). I've almost decided on a bridesmaids dress. I totally love it but its just a little more expensive than I was expecting. It's crazy how pricey they all are! It's also remarkable how you think something is going to be pretty straight forward but then there's all of this other stuff to think about. For instance, we're looking at hotels. You would think whichever is the closet and gave the lowest rate would win, right? Wrong. We need a shuttle that runs to the church and the reception, a  hospitality room for the guests to hang out in together, and an included breakfast.
We've been also meeting with florists. Gosh, I know nothing about flowers. Seriously, before the meeting I could probably only name 5 different flowers and I definitely don't have a favorite one; they're all so pretty! I always get more excited about stuff the more I learn about it though and I think we've come up with some pretty cool arrangements. We're going with mostly neutral colors for the flowers. I like the idea of champagne as an accent color with the navy.
We decided on a bridesmaids luncheon, too! It will be held at the Foster House right up in the middle of town. It's a really sweet place that has a lot of girly flare. A wedding seems like the perfect opportunity to embrace my girliness so that's just what I'm going to do!
Unfortunately, we've had to revisit our situation with our photographer. We've had many communication problems with him and then he cancelled on the day we were supposed to take our engagement session. Luckily, I decided on a DJ a few weeks ago and his wife is a photographer. I met with both of them a few days ago and I think it's going to be a blessing in disguise. Our first major bump in the road but I have confidence it'll work out!
Our 2nd bump, which some of you may not see as one, occurred last night when I discovered the everyday plates we had decided on are out of stock at Macy's! You can laugh if you want but you don't know how long it took me to find something I like. I don't know what it was but I am apparently very picky about plates and these were perfect for Drew and me. It seems everything I like at Macy's goes out of stock...hmm. I know everything happens for a reason though and I am hoping it just means there' something better coming.

Prather Wedding- Lindsey and Brandon are married!!
What a wonderful weekend! Lindsey and Brandon's wedding went off without a hitch and everything was so much fun! We had a delicious co-ed bridal luncheon at their place on Friday morning. Then we had rehearsal and then dinner at Transmet that night. There was an adorable slideshow and Carly, Courtney, and I sang a little song to the tune of "If I were a rich man" but changed it to "If I were a Prather". It was pretty funny if I do say so myself. All of the bridesmaids and the bride spent the night at the hotel together and then spent the entire next day getting ready! It was so much fun spending some time together. Lindsey looked GORGEOUS, I can't even tell you. It was a fantastic night with so many wonderful people- I only wish it would have lasted longer! Congratulations Lindsey, you did such a great job and I'm so happy for you!!

 Bridesmaids Dresses
The search has begun for the perfect bridesmaids dress for my girls. I have 8 special girls that will be joining me up at the alter! (9 if you include my adorable flowergirl). My 3 sisters, my 3 best friends, my cousin, and Drew's wonderful sister. I'm trying to keep in mind time of year of the wedding and what would be flattering on everyone. I've decided on a chiffon, t-length dress with either wide or halter straps. I haven't picked the exact dress yet but I have some good options so far! The color you ask? Navy blue.It just seems to fit for us. Hopefully the hunt for these dresses won't be as extensive as my wedding gown....bleh.
I also decided on a photographer! I met with a couple and this one seems to fit our budget, needs, and I feel pretty comfortable with him. We'll be getting ready for the engagement session soon. Just need to decide on a location....hmm....

The gown
It's embarrassing how many different shops I've been to in search of a wedding gown. I won't even bother you with the number (7!). My Mom, Dad, sisters, and Grandmama have come to various appointments and have been so helpful! They all have such good taste. Anyway, I saw a dress a couple of weeks ago that was not really what I had in mind but I really loved it. We made another appointment for today and I was really looking forward to going back. I put on the dress today and I knew we were done! I love it and I'm so excited! I'm also thrilled we won't be spending any more weekends on the hunt. But, I do recommend Treasures in Roswell, the consultants are so helpful and I appreciate their patience with me! I'm apparently very picky. Anyone surprised? No. Me neither.
By the way, that dress from the beginning that I thought I could not get over doesn't even compare to this one. I was such a noob ha.

Stock the Bar Shower
This weekend was the Stock the Bar couples shower for Lindsey and Brandon! It was a great group of people and we had a great time! The food was delicious and it was so much fun putting it together with Courtney and Carly! This is obviously a nontraditional shower but it was perfect for the laid back group of friends and a great excuse to have some good wine with good company.
Here's a little taste of the set up (Sorry if a couple of the pictures are blurry):

We used empty wine bottles as vases. We also scattered bottle caps on the table as "confetti". It is hard to tell, but we used wine corks as little stands to hold the labels for each dish.

Along with wine and beer, we had sangria and lemonade available. We spray painted 3 wine bottles with chalkboard paint and wrote their future wedding date on each bottle.
Gotta have beer inside and out!

Wine corks can dress up any container!

Wedding Dress Shopping!

The search begins. My parents and two of my sisters joined me this weekend in beginning to look at dresses. Man, there is so much to think about! They are all so pretty, it is hard to narrow things down. I actually found one that I love right at the very end of my hunt! Great, right?! No. After talking through everything and bonding with it and confirming the fabulously wonderful price, I come to find it is being discontinued and there is no way I can have it :( Sad day. Unfortunately, pretty typical for me these days. I've tried to start looking at other ones but nothing is comparing. O well, maybe I'll get over it soon! For those of you wondering what kind of dress could possibly have such a hold on me, unfortunately I can't describe it to you in case my fiance is reading this!! Nice try, Drew.

My beautiful parents put on a magnificent engagement party for Drew and me on New Year's Eve eve. It was such a fun night! There was so much good food and many of our close family and friends came to celebrate with us!

Check out my "MAS Recipes" page for the scrumptious cupcakes we came up with for the party.

02/08/2012

After 7 long, wonderful years of being together, Drew proposed.
Before I get into the story and for those of you who don't know us, I'll give you a little back ground:
Drew and I met through friends when we were in high school. I was a sophomore and he was a senior at a different school. Here is the first picture ever taken of us together:
High school football game- so little!

He went to UGA the next year and I went to GCSU once I graduated. I then transferred to UGA in the middle of my sophomore. This one semester would be the only time we went to the same school/lived in the same city! He graduated, got a job, and bought a house. I continued with my education and even decided to take on grad school. That brings us to now! We have our ups and downs along the way but its mostly been ups. I would not change one minute of our time together. It has been a blast growing up together and I am blessed to be able to see the wonderful man he has become.

Alright, now the engagement:
We've never explicitly talked about getting married, although it has been sort of an unspoken understanding between us, so the proposal was a surprise! It was the beginning of December and we were at his place decorating his first real Christmas tree for the house. We had spent the whole day together shopping and decorating for the joyous season. After we had finished with the tree, he pulled out a shoe box and announced we had a few more ornaments to add. (I should probably mention that the next day would be our 7 year anniversary). He took out 6 different ornaments representing important things in our lives and said sweet things about each of them. The last item was the ring :)
I was speechless and don't remember details about what I said after that! Our families came over to celebrate with us a few minutes later (they had apparently been circling the neighborhood).

12-04-11 (Notice the shirt he's wearing, look familiar?)

We've settled on March 23, 2013 as our wedding date. I will be finished with my student teaching and, most importantly, we know the new sanctuary at our church will be finished being built by that point! I am so happy to know that I will be spending the rest of my life with my very best friend. I can't wait to see what life has to offer us. Yay! Let the planning begin!
